Roof Warranties

Warranties. The word itself conjures up all sorts of ideas and principles that can be confusing, to say the least. Miami Roofing warranties are no exception. It’s safe to say that most homeowners may not know exactly what these guarantees actually cover. There are two reasons for this. First, there is one specifically for material, second, there is a labor or workmanship guarantee. These are two different things. And it is important to know the difference between the two, before signing the papers the roofing contractor hands you.

Materials Warranty
The name itself is self-explanatory. This is the guarantee that covers the materials only, such as shingles or tiles. This is to protect the customer from faulty materials. Therefore, when the time comes it is important to prove that the leak is caused by faulty materials as opposed to the roof to wall intersections, flashings etc. Premature wear and tear is also covered here However, It will not cover defective labor or even labor associated with the repairs. A material warranty can be anywhere from 5 years to as much as 50, depending on which manufacturer you decide to go with. As you can see, this particular guarantee is narrow in it’s definition.

Workmanship Warranty
This warranty is given by the contractor and should be the one you as a homeowner really take the time to inquire and ask questions about. Compared to materials, workmanship warranties are usually much shorter in length. This could be anywhere from one to as much as 20 years. It should cover bad workmanship, and in some cases, will cover defective material. It all depends on what the customer agreed on before the work starts.

Whatever it is, it is imperative for the customer to be clear as to what the contract covers. Some have cost limits, others have “determination of applicability”, which means what the Miami Roofing company decides what exactly falls under his responsibility. If you really want to get technical then there is the Nullification clause, which gives the contractor power to nullify a warranty at his discretion. Miami Roof-Tech uses only the highest quality material and offers some of the longest labor guarantees in the Florida roofing industry, contact us today to inquire and learn more.
